Nellie Copeland (nee Sharpley) was a Gamilaraay woman who was born in Walgett. Sadly she left us 18 March 2006. Nellie took a great interest in education and every Dharriwaa Elders Group activity, always keenly involved and actively participating. She is greatly missed by her brothers and sisters of the Dharriwaa Elders Group.
Phillip Kennedy is a Gamilaraay man born in Walgett in 1946. He was taken out to Dungalear Station where his parents worked and reared up out there. At the age of 13 Phillip started work riding horses mustering sheep for 6 pounds a week. "In the early 1960s I moved to town and took up shearing for forty years. George Rose was my teacher at Goodooga. And every shed I went into he made me union rep! Now I work every now and then as a community bus driver. I married in 1969 to Gloria Neen and we have four children - three boys and a girl. Now we have eight grandchildren." Phillip enjoys reading books (cowboy westerns) and looking after his grandchildren.
