UNSW Engineering visited Walgett in September, through Dharriwaa Elders Group's Yuwaya Ngarra-li partnership with UNSW. Before they arrived, Dharriwaa Elders Group had prioritised potential Walgett water infrastructure projects ins a written request to the Faculty. High on their list were main street drinking water kiosks and opening the Walgett swimming pool all year round. During the drought, saving the Walgett AMS community garden - an important community food assett, became the highest priority. The week after the Engineering team's visit, Dharriwaa Elders Group's Walgett Cemetery Upgrade project was announced as having received funding, through Walgett Council. So the team has been asked to also consider a sustainable watering solution for the cemetary also.
