Murat Dizdar in Walgett Sept. 2018

Murat Dizdar, NSW Department of Education Deputy Secretary, School Operations and Performance,

visited Walgett in September. Dharriwaa Elders Group was invited by the Walgett AECG President to join the Walgett Community College School Reference Group. We are working together with the AECG, Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service and the P&C to pressure NSW Education to change what they are doing in Walgett. The current education outcomes are unacceptable to the members of DEG. DEG has offered project proposals to the school, and through our Yuwaya Ngarra-li partnership with UNSW, is encouraging the school to embed ongoing professional supports for Walgett school teachers. NSW Education has proposed another new staffing structure, and the School Reference Group has requested an explanation work session for its benefits to be explained 29 October 2018.
